Jailbreaking from 3.1 to 4.1 - Am I doing it right?
Hi all, new here, so gosh i hope i'm in the right section,
I am planning to jailbreak my already jailbroken 8gb ipod touch from the 3.1 to the 4.1
I was thinking of 4.1 instead of 4.2.1 because I heard the the 4.1 would be untethered with greenpoison. Is that right?
So what I have done is save my SSH with cydia just in case.
I have the 4.1 firmware and greenpoison rc6.
My questions are
1. How to I do update to the 4.1 and not run the risk of itunes updating it to 4.2.1?
In other words, how do I install 4.1?
2. Are there any bugs or what not with 4.1 on the ipod touch that I should know or be aware of?
Thanks for the help

Greenpois0n can also jailbreak 4.2.1 untethered so you might as well just update to 4.2.1. To restore to a specific firmware you should press shift+restore on itunes (windows) or option+restore (mac) and select the IPSW file you downloaded.

Thanks for your help. 4.2.1 is now untethered for the 8gb iPod touch? When I was looking into jailbreak in ~Jan, the 4.2.1 were tethered for the mc 8gb iPod touch models. That's great if greenpois0n has found a way to untether it.
Also just wanted to make sure that my iPod is the 2g model and not the 3g model. It's the 8gb iPod touch that is right before the new 4g camera model.
Also, does it matter what version itunes software I use for the pc?

Yes 4.2.1 jb is now untethered (for all devices). If it's right before the new 4g model I suppose it's the 3g model, search around on how to identify a 2g vs 3g ipod touch model. You should use the latest iTunes version.
