    Default Jailbreaking 3.1.3 iTouch 2g

    Hi,
Downloaded redsn0w 0.9.4, as specified for my iPod. Downloaded the iPhone 3.1.2 2g firmware by mistake, it would get all the way up to "waiting for reboot". Realized my mistake and downloaded the iTouch 3.1.2 2g firmware. Used it with redsn0w 0.9.4, but it says that the version of redsn0w isn't meant for my device, and that I should use 0.9.2. Problem is, I can't find any links to download it for windows (also note that my ipod is MB and not MC). I tried 0.9.3, it recognized the firmware but the setup didn't seem to work, and it was asking me to run in recovery mode. Any suggestions/working links to 0.9.2?

edit: restoring will give me the news ios 4.2.1. Is this version still easily jailbroken? if so I might start it tonight.

    thanks

You do need redsn0w 0.9.4 on an iPod touch 2G (old bootrom/MB model)

You also need to supply a 2nd gen iPod touch 3.1.2 IPSW to redsn0w (I cannot give you a download link for that as you needed to pay Apple an upgrade fee to get access to the 3.1.x series on the 2nd gen iPod touch)

The file should be iPod2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw and the SHA1 for this IPSW is: e7c83d4a5baec0e81816ae1cd1caf9a4dc38ebf0

Because you initially tried with a 2G IPSW, you may need to restore the iPod touch before you have success.

That is the correct IPSW which I have. Not sure how to check the SHA1, but I assume it's the correct file.
Before I do anything drastic like a restore, could there be any other possibilities?

    appreciate the help

On a mac, try Mac OS X: How to Verify a SHA-1 Digest it gives you an idea of how to do this.

There are likely free GUI tools that can generate a SHA1 on both mac and windows. Google for them

Just curious, I'm restoring at the moment. Before I did so it said it would restore to the most recent firmware (4.2.1). If this is the case, rather than go through any complications with redsn0w, would jailbreakme do the same thing?

Nope... Jailbreak me ONLY works on 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0 and 4.0.1

You still need to use redsn0w to jailbreak 4.2.1 but just a newer version 0.9.6b6 I'd recommend
