I searched for other topics that could try and help me, but none of the methods worked.

I recently purchased an 32gb iPod Touch 3G from someone on Craigslist. It's stuck in a Recovery loop, and gets the Error 40 message whenever I try to Restore it on iTunes.

The previous owner used Blackra1n to try and jailbreak it. He says the last firmware on it was 3.1.2.

I've put the iPod into DFU mode when I tried restoring it , but I still end up getting the Error 40.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's 90% likely you have a hardware problem (faulty NAND). Hope you can claim warranty.

Also, I'm using iTunes version 10.1.2.17 on Windows 7 64 bit.

NAND driver status = failed
NAND driver status indicates failure

The log file shows that your NAND is not responding. I'd do a bit more troubleshooting with iRecovery but I think you have a failed NAND chip. This is a hardware problem and can't be fixed with any software tools.

Does the device still have warranty?
