Default ipod touch 2g/2nd gen stuck in recovery mode

well hello i have an ipod touch 2nd gen. just yesterday i ried to update my ipod touch from 3.1.3 jailbroken to a clean 4.1.2 but when it was done updating it just went into recovery mode. ive tried various programs like sn0wbreeze, and redsn0w but when after they are done installing it goes directly to recovery mode. i tried recboot and tiny umbrella to kick it out of recovery mode. tiny umbrella has the kick out of recovery mode grayed in, and in recboot it continually keeps rebooting as if it were to boot up to the homescreen but nothing. can somebody please help me??? thanks for your time if your reading this

I'm guessing you were jailbroken with spirit on 3.1.3

Force your iPod touch into DFU mode http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/54082.htm and then restore to clean 4.2.1 again

You should always restore rather than update when your phone is jailbroken. Especially when you run a userland jailbreak like spirit or jailbreakme.

well i have tried both ways. it restored fully once but after that it showed this messgae that it was going to reboot back into the homescreen, but then it goes right back into recovery mode. i tried to restore it many times after that but it hangs sometimes a 3rd of the way there and other times 3/4 of the way there. do i have to uninstall itunes and reinstall it or just that my ipod doesnt work anymore? thank you for your time

Hold down the Power and Home button until it says the iTunes Logo with the Cable, it will show another Apple sign, but keep holding down until the iTunes Logo with the Cable shows up. Plug into iTunes if you haven't already. Now it will say it has detected and iPod/iPhone etc. in Recovery Mode. Press Restore iPod/iPhone/iPad etc. Done!

    Hope this helps!

In order to recover iPod data, you need some useful software to help you make it work as usual. Once the software is able to scan the iPod completely it will display a list of found files categorized their specific extensions. You can preview and play the found files before completing iPod recovery, to ensure that you are recovering the correct files and that they are undamaged.
