I haven't seen this specific problem before. It seems quite similar to the error 9 or 29 problem (fails at around the same place).
It could be one of the following:
USB problem - Apple has great troubleshooting help on this page Update and restore alert messages on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Security Software on your computer interfering with the restore
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues
Maybe tcpwindowsize
or a hardware problem

Could be... but the same error occurred when I've connected my iTouch to my macbook and iMac... with other usb cable. AHM! maybe it's important say that my itouch is on DFU mode and I really try anything or any instruction to get me out (Hold both buttons, iRecovery, Recboot, etc.. all of them) and I still on DFU mode... and my pc or mac still detect it as DFU mode device.
Humm... other thing that it can be useful: I used this method to "jailbreak" my itouch on 4.0.2

Any idea?

Are you sure you have a non MC model iPod touch 2G?
If so..
Your restore log was for iOS 4.1 not for 4.0.2
There is a new release of redsn0w (released today) redsn0w 0.9.6 redsn0w 0.9.6 BETA [iPhone Dev Team] that can jailbreak iOS 4.1
Try to remove all entries to gs.apple.com from your hosts file, restore to iOS 4.1 and then double check that you do not have a MC model iPod touch, try and jailbreak again.

I can't restore or upgrade my itouch.... that's the real problem that I have U__U and I'm sure that isn't a MC model because of this:

MB model is good news. However I have not yet seen a restore log for anything aside from 4.1
I've not found any source which clearly explains what error 36 is.
The log you posted indicated that the failure was likely hardware related.
Without more troubleshooting from you (restore logs, testing on another computer, different USB cable etc) I can't help more.

I am having the same Error 36 with a restore of an MB IPT2G. Here is my restore log if anyone cares to take a shot at it.... #1329132 - Pastie
I can run a jailbreak with redsn0w as well and it uploads the kernel and everything, then runs the break and when its time to reboot, nothing. Just shuts off. Also the thing won't turn on for anything and gets a USB Device not recognized in windows if its not in DFU mode...
Any ideas would be great on this one.
