I know they have done this on the 1G but now im just wondering if they have done this yet on the 2G.

Work is proceeding on openiboot for the newer devices, but you need to understand that reverse engineering the hardware and writing drivers to support each new device takes a lot of time. So don't expect your 4G iPod touch to have this anytime soon.
