i have encountered the BDS root error about 30 times and the best way to fix it is to trick the ipod
for each time it has happened my ipod does not turn off so u have to hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the ipod switches off and before it reboots let go of each button and leave it for 30 seconds for the screen to go completely black
hold the home button and connect to pc/mac
    restore to 1.1.4
download pwnage and save yourself hours of hassle
when pwning make sure you have a freshly restored ipod 1.1.4 ive done this 2 times and it works a treat
    then browse for .ispw
let it do its thin then press ipwner
put ur ipod into DFU mode by turning off and holding the home button when connecting to mac
quit itunes and pwnage will do its thing
when it has rebooted fully press ok and then continue with building a custom ipsw
    i used pwnage 1.1
and the only options to change on the custom ispw setting is to change what is installed i.e. installer BSD subsystems and open ssh
    and the custom images
when you pick what you want to install simply press OK and while it is creating the custom ispw put your ipod into DFU mode using the method previously stated and when entering itunes press alt+restore and find the custom ispw and hay presto
if this has helped boost my rep
    :hack:

Hmm, ive got an ipod 8gb and have jailbroken it! tryed to lock it again and then jailbreak it again. Well, lock didnt work, got to the BSD loop and restored it to 1.1.4. Now im not able to jailbreak it again, got allways an error!

The error is as following: "Spamming AT, waiting for a response"
