touch problems.... big problems
Purchased a broken touch 1st gen. It had been dropped in water. The glass was starting to come off on one side. It would only turn on connected to an firewire a/c charger. At one point it made a chime and I got it to be recognized by computer to allow irip to get the music off.
I purchased a new battery and soldered it in. The touch works perfectly. I got the glass back down..... Perfect.
The touch will not go into dfu mode. It will not charge with usb and is not recognized by itunes. It will charge with firewire. When I take it off the charger it shows that the battery is nearly dead. The battery icon then starts to show more charge until it shows full charge. The battery lasts a long time.
This is a perfectly working touch that i have no way of syncing. I can buy new apps and play everything already on it.
Does anyone have any ideas? It is not cables or ports. I have tried 4 different macs and a pc. Different cables to no avail. I only bought this thing to see if I could fix it, I am now stuck . Thanks in advance for the help!!

That is part of the problem. The phone is not recognized by itunes. It will not go into dfu mode. It can only be used with firewire. USB is not recognized. Does this sound like a hardware issue or software?
