    Default Stuck in Recovery/Restore/DFU Mode

Hello, I could use a little help getting out of restore/recovery(/maybe dfu?) mode on my ipod touch. I have firmware 2.2 jailbroken with quickpwn.

I attempted to restart using the start/sleep+home combo, but when it restarted it showed the usb cable -> itunes logo screen (as well as sometimes the small digital clock and battery meter at the top of the screen). In this mode, when i held the start/sleep button or start/sleep+home the red shutdown slider would appear after a couple seconds, and when i plugged it into my computer and started itunes, itunes told me that the device was locked and could not be used or the like. So i have been searching around the internet and these forums for several hours now. By holding the home button and plugging in the cable, i was able to boot it into a restore mode (usb cable -> itunes screen) without a clock/battery meter or shutdown slider, but when i restarted it without using the home button trick it would still show the digital clock/battery meter and shutdown slider. So i put it into dfu mode using the directions provided here: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=54082 . However, the screen is not black like that link says it should be; it still shows the usb cable -> itunes screen. When i open itunes with the device connected, itunes tells me that it needs to be restored. I have tried using the directions for exiting both dfu mode and restore mode from the previous link, neither worked. Now whenever i start the device it quickly goes to the usb cable -> itunes screen and has no clock/battery meter or shutdown slider. By quickly i mean it takes 2 seconds from the time that the apple logo first appears until it shows the usb cable -> itunes screen; this is opposed to before attempting to put it into dfu mode when it would take perhaps a minute and a half to go from the apple logo to the usb cable -> itunes screen and have the clock/battery meter and shutdown slider.

Sorry for the long/slightly incoherent post; i wanted to be as detailed as possible. Anyways, many thanks for any suggestions on bringing the device back to life. I haven't tried any of the iphone modifying programs (such as iLiberty+, Ziphone, iBrickr, etc.) because all of the suggestions to do so are in response to people with 1.x firmwares, and i wasn't sure if any of these programs work with 2.2 firmware.

    Smile Possible Solution: ZiPhone

Here's something that might work. I don't know if you ever used ZipPhone from Zibri to jailbreak your iTouch, but it was a great app back before he discontinued work on the project. ZiPhone has a nice little feature built in that'll detect your iTouch, and bring it out of recovery / DFU mode Go ahead and download the appropriate version for either Windows or Mac:

    ZiPhone Download

Click"Click here to Download ZiPhone (Main)" at the top of the page. After you finish downloading the file, connect your iTouch to your computer. Unzip the downloaded file, then run the "ZiPhone GUI v3.0". At the bottom of the screen, you will see "Advanced Features", and to the right on the same bar, "Click to show advanced features". Go ahead and click on it to expand the menu. Now, in the top right hand corner, you will see the "Change phone Mode" options: DFU Mode, Recovery Mode, and Normal Mode. Click on Normal Mode, and in the Information section in the top center of the window it should try to locate your device, find it, and then say it is completed. *NOTE THAT I AM RUNNING WINDOWS VISTA* Should be similar for Mac though. Hope this helps. If not, then I would recommend restoring through iTunes. If you need the 2.2 Firmware, you can get it from iPodTocuhed's link on MegaUpload Here. Good luck! Feel free to message me if you need any help

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried ZiPhone, but it froze when I tried booting it into normal mode, and then when I rebooted it, it was in DFU mode. I also tried iLiberty+ and iBrickr, but none of them would recognize it in DFU mode. Restoring it with iTunes now.

Default i have got a stuck in restore problem too

    Hi,

I need some help for a similar problem of being unable to restore/get out of restore mode.

Unfortunately i can't give much details cus i forgot what version was my ipod touch. But it has been jailbroken. it has been working normally for quite some period of time until one day when the screen turned black while playing with it. when turned back on, it showed the 'connect to itunes' sign.

when i tried to restore it, it gives says unknown error occured (9). all the subsequent tries have not been working as well. it kept prompting me to restore the ipod touch and yet gave me the same error over and over again.

    any suggestions/help?

    thanks

You might want to try putting it into DFU mode (directions here: [FW 2.x](2G&3G) DFU and recovery mode (getting in and out of) - Hackint0sh ) and then restoring it.
