Hey, well im usually on the iPhone section :hack: but i was wondering, if i wanted to upgrade my friend's iPod to 2.0 by just doing a shift + restore to the ipsw without buying the upgrade will it work?
Im asking this because i have the original iPod 2.0 5A347 ipsw, but my friend didnt buy the upgrade and im not sure wether iTunes authenticates the iPod after the restore to make sure u paid.

i have an ipsw file (iPod1,1_2.0_5A345_Restore), but I don't know what I should do now. I have windows vista. when I double click on it, then open itunes, but without results, when I click in itunes on restore, it wants to download 1.1.5 firmware, i have a button 'update' to 2.0, but when i click on it, itunes wants to connect to server and buy upgrade. how should I apply it?

oh, and once. I put that file to .../iTunes/iPod Software Updates, still same
Should probably read the forums (including iPhone and google ;) )
But what you want to do is: plug in your ipod...open iTunes click on your iPod...
Then hold down shift and click on update..browse to the .ipsw file and your done.
(some people will say to shift-restore, but I used update and it worked fine)
I dont think theres much need in jailbreaking it atm (search pwnage) unless you want to install cracked apps ;)
yes, that's it. I've read about it, but there was shift+ctrl so it didn't work.
