    Exclamation Please.... Please.....!

Hello, I am trying to fix a friends ipod touch. I've got an iphone 3gs that I've jailbroken so I'm somewhat familiar with their interface. But I am ready to pull out my hair with this ipod!! I cannot get iTunes or my MacBook Pro to recognize it. I have put the ipod into restore mode by holding on/off/sleep & home buttons. The screen shows the iTunes icon with USB plug. Still nothing from iTunes. My iphone and a different ipod touch both connect just fine. Which leads me to believe it's not my computer/usb port/cord. I've also tried connecting the problem ipod to a PC w/ Windows XP. It says it doesn't recognize the usb device. My abilities using Windows are severely lacking. But I tried to update/uninstall/reinstall the apple mobile device drivers and still nothing worked. So I'm back to my comfort zone on my Mac. I have also tried just holding the home button and then plugging in the cord to force it, but still nothing from iTunes. Is there anything at all that can help get this going again? I'll even try the windows thing again (if absolutely necessary)! lol. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank You!!

check the socket on the ipod touch for junk/damaged pins

it could be the board that interfaces the dock connector to the rest of the ipod touch.

    sounds very much like hardware

Hi and thanks for the reply I checked for junk/damaged pins and it looks okay to me. It's making some sort of connection because when I hold down just the home button and then plug it in. The apple icon comes up (only after insertion) & I continue to hold it until the restore to iTunes icons appear. But still nothing happens it iTunes itself. If it is indeed the board is it fixable for a nonprofessional like myself? Is there any way to tell for sure? Thanks for the help I REALLY do appreciate it!!

The behaviour you explain (hold down home to get into recovery mode) only requires power from the dock connector. I have seen quite a few reports where the iPhone/iPod detects power but can't be detected by a computer. The general fix is to replace the bottom comm board that includes the home button and the dock connector. With the correct spare parts and an experienced repair technician this repair can be done in less than an hour.

If it is under warranty with Apple, get them to replace the device.
