I have an iPod Touch 3rd Generation, and i jailbroke it with jailbreakme.com(for like 4 weeks) and then bricked it (continous loop of apple logo boot sequence). I put it in recovery mode. Then, i tried to restore via iTunes multiple times. iTunes gave me an error message that my iPod can't be restored in recovery mode. PLEASE HELP!!!

Detailed Instructions to Reproduce the Problem =

-Jailbreak iPod with jailbreakme.com
- Have Fun On Your Jailbreak for about a month
- Download Several Apps on Cydia with low battery life
- Download an app that requires you to restart springboard
- As Restarting, Battery Dies
- Charge iPod Full
- Turn iPod on and watch the continuous loop of the apple logo startup
- Put iPod in recovery mode and try to restore with iTunes
- Let it download and watch the ipod restart
- As it is beginning restore, iTunes says that it can't restore because it is in recovery mode.
- Repeat that step about 4 times

The attempted restores are not found in my iTunes restore Log.

Are you sure you can't find mentions of this in the restore logs?

Do you have shsh for 4.0? Try a dfu mode restore.

The Firmware Umbrella check if you have a SHSH for a specific iOS version.

If you don't have a save SHSH for 4.0, there is no way right now for you to restore to 4.0 again. You MUST restore to 4.1 and wait for a jailbreak.

Check your hosts file

Hold windows-key and press r
Type (or copy/paste) into the run box

Code:

notepad.exe "%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\drivers\etc\hosts"

Check you don't have any lines that say:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

or

Code:

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

or

Code:

127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

It's okay if there is a # at the beginning of the line, that means the line is ignored by windows.

Have you tried DFU mode? I provided a link explaining how to enter that mode.

Download iOS 4.1 again (manually) from http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm

Shift-click restore in iTunes, browse to the manually downloaded 4.1 IPSW and restore with that.
