iPod 1st Gen 16GB Problems
Alright, I've tried for months to get this to work, its way past out of warranty, and it was on 2.2.1 i believe. Here's what it does, it will go from apple to connect to itunes, flash, and keep rebooting itself. It then heats up and the apple and cable on the screen turn purple, not the backgrounds, the icons themselves. It usually says usb not recognized when its plugged in, and the few times it does connect to itunes and i try to shift+restore it, it get past extracting software, then display a random error, sometimes itunes says waiting for ipod and the screen on the ipod goes white. I've tried restoring with official 2.2.1 and 3.1.2 firmware, i managed to grab this from itunes. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

iPod 1st Gen 16GB Problems
Ah yes,.,. An old error friend for all the hacktiaters and porters of firmware on idevices,
You need to make sure that you have the correct firmware
It should begin with something like iPod_1_1...............
Download that and shift restore in iTunes and that should resolve the problem
If that doesn't work try differnt operating systems or just doddery USB ports....

Okay - it could be the iPod
The log files show serious USB stability/connectivity problems.
I would try a different cable (official Apple cable, not some cheap copy) and a different computer/OS. If neither help then probably the USB interface on the actual iPod touch is flaky.

Thanks for the reply, I've tried it on windows 7 and windows XP, various versions of iTunes, numerous cable and tried restoring to different firmwares, apparently a friend had tried to downgrade from 2.2.1 to 1.1.4 before it acted up, any idea how to fix it? It's out of warranty, so do i have to replacce a part in the ipod or is there a fix? Again, thanks.

Ipod to pc transfer
Here is a software to transfer all iPod content to the iTunes on your computer, including iPod music, movies, playlists, videos, podcasts, ratings, last played, and more. It's such a powerful one that many friends around me have used it for a long time. Easy and safe.

if you are using itunes 32bit in windows 64 bit, you have to uninstall ALL apple gear, use something like win7 manager uninstaller or similar. reboot, download 64bit and install, reboot then try.
windows 7 is a pain, this is what i had to do to get it to work. if this doesnt work, try a USB port in the back, or better yet, USB PCI slot. that will most defiantly work.
dont waste money though, just make sure you back up, 100% uninstall anything apple, reboot redownload, reinstall and reboot and you should be good! if all else fails, download an ubuntu live USB...
