ok, I am on a Windows PC... that could make a difference. I have noticed something on my side though, that my laptop has many problems running these Touch hacks, as if the USB port not as good or the driver is corrupt or something.

Just so you know, both windows and OSX versions of 1.1.2-Jailbreak run .jar files... the .bat file I am talking about is only a "script" that runs the .jar file (so I don't have to type it out in the command prompt).

Since you are on a Mac you might want to try something else (which I cannot try as I am on a Windows computer).

    http://code.google.com/p/independence/

see if that helps... and what about ZiPhone? Is that also broken for the Touch if you are on a Mac?

    http://www.downloadziphone.org/

looks like ZiPhone 2.5c just came out... maybe that works better?

one more thing... looks like MANY apps need to be upgraded to work with 1.1.4... so you might want to just stick with 1.1.3 for now.

Ok, I wasn't sure if the .bat file was just running the .jar or if there was more to it in the script. So the main variable is running on the mac instead of windows.

I'll try it on the windows machine and see how it goes. If not, I'll take a look at the independence link, thanks.

As far as Ziphone, that's where I started yesterday, but as of yesterday morning, it says it doesn't work on a 16gb touch, only the 8gb. Of course I had to try for myself anyway and it indeed didn't work which is what brought me here. Not sure if the version I used was 2.5c but I'll take a look.

Here's the other thing....I could obviously just do the standard upgrade via iTunes to 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 and just wait until a better/bulletproof method comes out BUT....I was one of the one's who PAID the $20 for the upgrade to the wiggly icons, notepad, etc (which are obviously blown away now) and damit I want them back now!! I did try to do the standard upgrade to get my ipod back to the way it was before all of this playing around, but I don't get those things back. I guess I could contact apple and tell them my ipod froze and I had to use the recovery which blew away that stuff if I really had to.

Anyway, thanks again and I'll post back when I try the windows jailbreak and the other suggestions tonight.

    I just updated my instructions:

    --------------------------------------------------------------

    2. Once the iPod Touch is back to running 1.1.1 I went to jailbreakme.com and installed the Installer (I think we've all done this at some point). TURN OFF AUTO-LOCK!!!!! (this is VERY VERY important, its in the SETTINGS, GENERAL section)

    3. Here is what I installed:
    ***a. Install "Community Sources"
    ***b. Install BSD Subsystem 2.1
***c. Install BSD Subsystem 2.0 termfix
***d. Install “OktoPrep” which preps your iPod Touch for firmware 1.1.2

    4. Go to iTunes and UPGRADE (NOT RESTORE) using the shift key again to 1.1.2

    5. This would be a good time to go on the internet and get the 1.1.2-jailbreak.zip file you will need this next. (google it)
( make sure you still have these installed )
    ***a. "Community Sources"
    ***b. "BSD Subsystem 2.1"
    ***c. "BSD Subsystem 2.0 termfix"

    6. Turn off iTunes (be sure it is not running in the task manager) Unzip the 1.1.2-jailbreak.zip file and (FIRST MAKE SURE AUTO-LOCK IS TURNED OFF ON THE IPOD TOUCH) then run "windows.bat" on your 1.1.2 Touch. It should find it and start the process... I highly recommend you just leave it alone and have it plugged into the USB port for power (the last thing you want is to run out of power during this process).
    --------------------------------------------------------------

See if that makes a difference for you. By not having the right SOURCES installed that would cause the 1.1.2-jailbreak to fail. Let me know how that works.

Ok, I got home and saw your last post. I DID NOT have the ***b. Install BSD Subsystem 2.1 and ***c. Install BSD Subsystem 2.0 termfix installed, only the oktoprep. So I thought that had to be the problem. I gave it one more try on my MAC but with everything installed....and..........nope, same thing happens.

So, I got everything on my windows machine and ran the process there..........SUCCESS!!! Worked like a charm. So the answer is this process DEFINITELY DOES NOT work on a MAC for whatever reason (at least for me). I'd be curious to know if anyone else can run through it on a MAC.

One thing I did differently was only go to a jailbroken 1.1.3, not 1.1.4 based on your experience with things still not working.

Thanks again for all your help!!!!

Itunes pops back up and the touch is just stuck at the screen with the data cable and the arrow pointing to the itunes icon and stays there.

I have itunes OFF and set to not start when I connect the ipod, but it still pops up at the end of the process.

I tried a few times and get the same result.

Anyone have this issue as well? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I was running into the same problem and down/upgraded several times (and hours)... download http://www.ziphone.org/ and when you get to the screen with the data cable (on your ipod touch) open ziphone, go to advanced select " Exit Recovery (Normal Reboot)" and the click on start...that will do the trick.
Another thing...now that I have a 1.1.4 16Gb jailbroken iPod Touch with the installer icon, it seems like none of the applications work on 1.1.4 yet, I'm always getting
a "Error in script command 1" so it's probably better to only update to 1.1.3 at this point.

I'm trying to Jailbreak a 16gig iPod Touch and the iPod doesn't seem to want to go back to 1.1.1 - iTunes refuses to restore the firmware.

I've tried using iTunes 7.5 and this allowed me to at least get down to 1.1.2, but I still can't get it to 1.1.1.

Does anybody have any idea how I could get this to work?

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
I've never had a problem on any version of ITunes downgrading provided you're doing it properly.

    Are you sure:
1 - you downloaded the 1.1.1 firmware and have it on your computer?
    2 - are using shift + restore(windows) or alt/option + resotre(mac) then selecting the 1.1.1 firmware file?

It's as simple as that and that's all there is to it.

Default ziphone works with continuous clicking

if you look at the thread that is titled
    [ZiPhone] BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 ( 1 2 3)
read on page 3 there is a video link that shows that it actually works with continuous clicking. shows with windows but not sure about mac
also see if the latest version of independence works.
