A few questions about upgrade to 2.1
Hi guys
I'm new to these forums btw, and looking for some friendly advice please
I've got a first gen Touch (8 gig) which has jailbreak 1.1.2 installed. I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading my ipod.
Basically, all i use my ipod for is wireless internet connection and listening to music. i dont use it for much else to be honest. So i was considering upgrading my OS through itunes to the latest version (2.1 or something) and happily paying for it. (the costs really dont bother me). but i have a couple of Q's....
1) will i be able to buy/download the usual apps i use like weather, notes, maps etc etc.
2) i'm presuming when upgrading through itunes it'll automatically wipe and erase all current JB stuff i have installed. Will all my music stay unaffected?
3) one of the main things i use my Touch for is iSolitaire whilst on the commute to work every day. Is there a version of solitaire i can install on the official firmware upgrade without jail breaking again?
4) Is there actually any need to upgrade or not would you say? or just stay where i am? what would be any advantage or dissadvantage of upgrading my system?
thanks chaps

basically, if i decide to upgrage down the official route (ie, return to un-jailbreak status via itunes, then update the firmware), will all my music stay unaffected?

1.- You'll be able to download apps from the iTunes Store & from Cydia
2.- Yes, but music can be sync back
3.- I think so. There is one at iTunes Store
4.- It's really up to you, but iTunes Store is a great feature
Hope this helps

What duck is saying: Yes the music will be gone, but this should not be a problem cause you should have the songs in iTunes. Once at 2.1 you sync it back.

2.1 will come with these apps previously installed.

When upgrading to 2.1 you will lose all of your file including music on your device but you will still be able to put it back on by syncing in itunes.

There are multiple versions of Solitaire in the AppStore available for download which will be on 2.1.

2.1 is probably the most stable firmware as of right now, as far as advantages...just the apps and features (mainly the app store). As far as disadvantages...theres not much support for 1.1.2 any more.
thanks chaps
