Does anyone know what file(s) in older generation iPods allows them to mount in Finder a la Disk Mode?

No offense, but you seem pretty n00bish from this comment. You seem to be trying to write a USB Mass Storage Device driver for Recovery Mode. Several things: Recovery Mode is very different from Disk Mode, so it's not going to work. Also, even if it were as simple as copying a file from the old iPod to the iPod touch, they have different hardware, so it wouldn't run right. Those are only two of a bunch of reasons I could think of that this isn't possible

It MAY be possible however, for someone really advanced to write a Mass Storage Device driver for while the device is booted up.

yeah, okay, sorry I'm a n00b. No reason to be a sn0b. It just seems that there must be something in the usb profile of the device which specifies whether or not it can mount as a removable disk. After all programs like iNdependence seem to have no trouble recognizing the file system of the touch through the dock connector. And maybe this is another "n00b" comment but what does recovery mode have to do with it?
