Looks like there's a fifth bit for "Tethering Auth" as well. See more of my findings in the thread about the Cellular Data Network section of Settings.app. A type-mask setting of 24 should set Tethering Traffic and Tethering Auth to true.

Could you make an ipcc for me, Please set sAPNUserEditable and IsMMSUserEditable boolean value set to true. So that I can edit the values. Thanks

I read a lot about MMS and still I cannot set it in my iPhone 3G. I have beta 3, in 3rd APN I filled it with MMS data from Orange Poland. I don't know what do I bad…
So it looks like things have changed around a bit in 3.0 final. Specifically, the 4th bit seems to be unused now, and there are two bits that need to be set to enable tethering. I'm not sure of the exact purpose of each tethering bit, but no carrier file only uses one or the other, they are both always used.
Also, it doesn't look like any of the "IsMMSUserEditable" or "IsAPNUserEditable" settings apply any more either, nor do "AllowMMSCEditing" or "AllowMMSEditing", which never actually did anything, and were just somebody's wild guess that everybody picked up on. All you should need in your carrier.plist file for editing to work is "AllowEDGEEditing" set to true.
Here's the new chart for type-mask values:

hi, i'm trying to hack my ipcc file for Movistar.
the original IPCC came like this
APN telefonica.es
Type-mask: 6
APN telefonica.es
Type-mask:7
APN movistar.es
Type-mask:48
that means telefonica.es is used to data, mms, vvm
and movistar.es is used for tethering only.
Now.. how could I tweak this into using the same apn for all of this?
i tried modifying the mask 48 for telefonica.es but it doesn't work.
then I tried adding just one apn witth the mask 55 (data, mms, vvm, tethering) but I get a "pdp authentification failure"
any ideas what could I do?
thanks a lot
is it possible to add mms settings in a .mobileconfig instead of ipcc?

@khyros
'pdp authentication failure' sounds like your phone didn't set up the apn right. with your hacked ipcc for movistar running on your phone try to go to the 'field test' menu by dialing *3001#12345#*
there you can check the currently set apn for your iphone (pdp context list > 0 > access point name).
maybe it helps to tweak your ipcc the way you want. good luck.
