is there any way to do the restore without being thru itunes?
Hi,
I have an iphone 3g which i have bought in ebay. it happens that the seller had it unlocked but from one moment to another it seems to became unsable.
it is always saying to connect itunes and itunes is always telling that it needs to be restored.
in dfu mode i click in restore and i'm always forced to download the latest firmware but i dont want that.
i have tried for several ways to make it choose my custom firmware but if it detects that the firmware present is not the one downloaded it is downloaded again.
conclusion... i can't even try to inject a custom firmware
any tips for this casE?
thx,
with my best regards,
Nuno

iTunes is the only way to restore iPhone and iPod Touch firmware (as far as I know). I recommend trying an Apple Store, obviously not telling them that it was unlocked, just that it isn't working and see what they do/say.

or you could restore to the same firmware and unlock it yourself using one of the iPhone dev-team tools, i assume it is 3.1 firmware or similar, i haven't unlocked an iPhone in a few months
think you could use some of the comments on this thread here to help you with your problem as you haven't mentioned which firmware you are currently on Dev-Team Blog - Ultra's Now!
