1st off hello all. 1st post here and I want to TYIA for any help to lead me. No no, I am not one of those noobs that "accidentally" upgraded to FW 3.1. Those posts never ceased to amaze me.

Here is the deal. Honestly, I have clarity on bits and pieces but I just cant seem to find any help or tutorials on my situation. Needless to say, I don't want to screw anything up. ESPECIALLY ACCIDENTALLY update to 3.1.

Here are my specs with the question to follow.

Iphone 3G
WAS, WAS running 3.0.1 until did reset
Jailbroken = Redsn0w
Unlocked = Ultrasn0w
Running windows XP
Itunes 9


So I decided to do a factory reset BEFORE the 3.1 update came out. Got busy, blew it off, the update came out. I know that if I would have plugged the phone in, ran the update, I know I would have been SCREWED.......so I didn't. Bottom line is that now my Iphone is stuck on the apple logo.

Can anyone please please pleeeeeeze help me out and give me a suggestion on what to do. What direction do I go ? It seems like there is SO MUCH info, its overwhelming. If anyone wants to take a shot and flame me.....LOL, go ahead, I can take it. If anyone wants to help me out, please do.

dfu mode + shift restore to 3.0.1? or does iTunes not sign iPhone 3G ipsw's under 3.1 also (i thought it only applies to 3GS) but hopefully im wrong and they are signed with 3G ipsws, so try that.

or better yet, if you have access to a MAC or a pwned 3.1 ipsw just download pwnagetool 3.1.1 and restore your phone with the custom 3.1 ipsw, and your unlock will remain because the baseband will remain intact for unlock

AH !!!! I did read that as well. See, thats why I was getting so overwhelmed, LOL.

AND, I read that as well. Man, you guys RULE !!!!! No access to a mac though. Well, not at 1:15 AM PST, lol.

Ok, so I went into DFU mode, hit SHIFT + RESTORE, it asked for the file to upload, I used the same one that I did in the past, iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore, it went thru everything and gave me an unknown error 1611. I did this 2 times. No dice.

*sniff sniff*

Help again ? Pleeeeeze.

Read a post about the 1611 error. Restarted computer, used a different USB port and .........I think .......i think.........oh boy.........

Got it !!!!!!!!! Restored to 3.0 !!!!!!!!! YOU GUYS RULE !!!!!!!!!!

That was actually pretty silly. Just switched out the USB port, rebooted.........GOLDEN !!!

haha welcome to the world of iphone hackery... after your... 500th or so restore you'll realize that what you just did is actually one of the easiest and mundane things you'll have to do to make your iPhone pimp. lol. But yeah, i remember those days of freaking out over the smallest steps of messing around with the phone... spent 4 hours hacking my first iphone at 1.1.1

LOL, dude, you are SO RIGHT. In all honestly, I have been holding off since the 3.1 release to do ANYTHING at all to my phones. When I was all done and FINALLY going to bed, I was all......"man, I could have done that WEEKS ago" LOL. Well, better safe than sorry ANY DAY. Ya know, I wouldn't want to ACCIDENTALLY hit the UPDATE TO 3.1 button.
