I have a 2G iphone unlocked and Jailbroken to 1.1.4. This iphone was originally unlocked and jailbroken at 1.0.2 and then to 1.1.4.

I want to upgrade it to 3.x.x and need some comments on what to do. Also, are there any disadvantages to this upgrade, ie battery life, etc. I am also running the $5.95 TMobile internet hack. Will this still be an option with an upgrade to 3.x.x?

What is the best program to use, which version of 3.x.x is the best one to go to and any handholding tutorials for do this?

I've skimmed through this site but just want to make sure I do this correctly as I would hate to brick my phone.

Get a push certificate afterwards via this thread http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/113610.htm that will help with battery life (allows you to properly turn off or on push)

Things get a bit more complex if you want to keep your SMS history and other items from your current setup. You can still do this, but I can't recall if you need to go to OS 2.x in between so the databases get upgraded properly.

sorry for the lack of knowledge but would I be better off going from 1.1.4 to 2.x.x and then to 3.x.x? I'm not worried about my SMS history as long as I can still use texting. What other items do I lose if I go directly to 3.x.x? Is it mainly history data related?

I have similar concerns wrt to SMS DB Contacts etc when going from 2G 2.2 to 3.1.x

You should have no problems as long as you either:

1. upgrade then jailbreak.
2. take 2.x backup and then restore to 3.x before restoring your backup from 2.x

That will upgrade your databases.
