Has any heard anything or made any progress on getting Push Notifications working on the EDGE iPhone?

This was my most anticipated feature and the only one that doesn't work. I just found this comment on this blog:

legit att, but unlocked and hacktivated, test sim is from another country and doesnt work here , but iphone doesn’t complain about the different sim and push is delivered through wifi….

Update to 3.0 (Baseband isn’t updated so its still unlocked)
Redsnow to Jailbreak (dont unlock!)
Activate with legit sim and confirm push is working (play for a while with it)
ran redsnow again, but only checking “unlock”

I went to OS3.0 from Pwange Tool so I'm a bit confused as to what to do, but I might try it this evening.

NOTE: Could one of the moderators make this thread a sticky, so we might be able to keep awareness up on the Push Notification problem and try to find a solution?

My iPhone was bought in the UK but I am using it in Portugal. I have the original O2 SIM card that came with the iphone but I never activated because I did not want to be charged in any way.

Is it even possible for me to activate it from Portugal? If I did, would I incur any charges? anyone done anything like this?

Push notifications was THE feature of 3.0 that I really wanted and it's the only one that doesn't work

i think the key is "test sim is from another country and doesnt work here". with a working SIM, i think push will want to go through EDGE, which normal people without data plan will get charged quite a lot.

so if we can find a way to get Push working through wi-fi only (eg, like ipod touch) by somehow make push notification part think there is no valid SIM, it is worth going through the activation process to get push working.
otherwise i don't think it's really worth spending another half a day to try this out and all the effort to get the phone back to how you customised it.

I'd like to believe the normal iPhone user has a data plan, jail broken or not.

nope, using my iPhone as ipod touch with a phone glued onto it. only use online features when near wi-fi (which is everywhere i go around campus)

i got charged for 3 days, Vodafone charges 50p per day if you use the wireless data

Come on people, we need to raise more awareness for this issue. The dev-team is happy with their 3GS' and do not consider this a top-priority. They even said so!

Now with this geohot-3.0-jailbreak thing, they're probably having heated discussions about the jailbreak right now.

I love the dev team and their work, but we need to MAKE SOME NOISE to get them to notice that this is a big deal. It's been over 2 weeks!

I agree. This is a major issue and I'm surprised it's not getting much attention.
