Yes I do, AP Mobile. Set location in the app to US. dont have to set iPhone's region to US, just the one in the app.
AP only thows a news every 1 or 2 days, thank god ;-)

Hi all,

I have an unlocked 2g iphone that I was able to update directly through itunes (having used mac pwnage tool previously) and got the error about connecting to itunes for push notifications in tap tap. When the new pwnage tool was released last night I used that and updated and now I get no errors when loading tap tap. I setup AP as American (and get the push notification settings in the iphone for it). I also tried installing truphone on mine and my girlfriends phone and tried to send a message from one phone to the other with the apps in various combinations of open and close.

I haven't had a single push notification yet! Where I live, there is no option to use an official iphone (or I'd have a shiny 3gs in my hand right now!) and I really was looking forward to push - are the people who had luck above using official iphones without unlock etc?? Or do I need to change something??

I don't know if it's relevant at all but I tried to send a message from mobileme to my 'lost' iphone and it went straight through..

This IS relevant: Push is working. Apple uses Push for this one. It even works if another simcard or even no simcard is in. Thats why push works for iPod Touch aswell.

You ONLY need an internet connection to use push, either WiFi or via data plan of your carrier.

I am not on an Apple partner carrier btw ;-)

Just one more to add: I would guess the problem is caused by the app developer. That's how Push works:

A developer having an app that offers push notification has to run a server on the internet. This server is connected to Apples Push Notification Servers (PNS).
Once your iPhone is running (push enabled and the 3rd party app's push enabled) your iPhone lets Apple's PNS know that it can be reached via internet connection eitehr via WiFi or carrier data plan.
Once the 3rd party app's server is delivering a push notification to Apple's PNS you get it forwarded.
Cause push notes direct from Apple apps (like the lost and found thing) get delivered, the 3rd party developer's server may have a communication problem with Apple's PNS.

Hope this clears up a bit how push works.

Ok, well I guess I'll keep waiting to see if AP pushes anything through, I am outside the US but with the app set to US. Maybe I can download something else to test it, can anyone recommend and apps?

I have not tried this one but QuickPigeon is free and should push notes immediately

Thanks for the advice - now I'm even more confused! I rechecked mobileme again and it came through immediately!

I thought truphone would be a good test as it would allow me to try and create the notification but that's not doing anything.

I went onto tap tap and saw that my girlfriends iphone has challenged me (which I thought would be a push notification).

I've just customized AP to select loads of topics in the hope that may do something, it seems really strange!!

And I tried quick pigeon too and that's not working!

Surely there must be something wrong??
