WiFi Disconnect When Sleeping...

Hello Everyone,
I have a question, actually quite a dilemma. So, my iPhone is not activated yet since AT&T wants to charge me $30 more than I pay with T-Mobile and I have version 3.1.3. I'm using (When At Home On WiFi) the app textPlus to text when I have my WiFi and Skype to make phone calls. HOWEVER, I guess when going into sleep mode it turns off the WiFi after a certain amount of time, so unless I stay out of sleep mode I don't get my text messages. Is there a way to hack this so it doesn't close the WiFi connection?

P.S. Is there an estimation date on unlocking 3.1.3?

date for unlock for 3.1.3 or higher -answered many times late june after next gen iPhone is released. Thread closed

wifi stays on if the iPhone is connected to power but otherwise it is turned off as it is a significant battery drain. You would need to investigate apps that dim the screen or blank the screen but don't sleep the phone to keep wifi running. There are some in Cydia that do this. Expect much worse battery life.
