Unlocking and Jailbreaking iPhone 2g with 3.1.2 firmware
Now, this is kind of complicated (in my opinion) so I'm just going to explain the situation from the beginning.
A friend of mine purchased an iPhone 2g from 'someone', I have no idea who, and it appears it already came jailbroken and unlocked, as it had some programs like "BSD Subsystem", "Installer", "Summer Board", etc. Everything worked, he could detect and use wireless networks to browse the internet / YouTube, he could make calls no problem, photos, everything.
Now, a couple of weeks ago, he informs me that he can no longer access wireless network. We make sure that WiFi is turned on and we try in several areas with WiFi networks: My university, my house, some hotel lobbies. No networks can be found in any place. YouTube obviously doesn't work, and Safari states "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet".
His iPhone had the 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 firmware, one of the two, I can't recall which. I thought that perhaps updating the firmware to the newest release might do the trick. I upgraded it to 3.1.2, and since I used my computer (since all the music and applications that were on it had been put, I assume, by the guy that sold him the iPhone), and it told me that I would have to delete all the data to update it. I did, and it deleted everything.
Now, I assume that because the phone 'reset', that it is no longer jailbroken and unlocked. Am I correct in assuming this? I ask because I put a SIM card of mine to restore it, I used blackra1n to jailbreak the iPhone, but I had no service even with my SIM card - I'm not familiar at all with how unlocking iPhones works, but I assume that unlocking means you allow the phone to use SIM cards to make calls, right?
Now, I have been told that to unlock the phone, I have to go into blackra1n in the iPhone and download Cydia. But I can't do this because the phone still doesn't detect wireless networks.
So before, it didn't detect networks. Now, it still doesn't, and it can't even make calls anymore.
Is there anything I'm overlooking? I've already reset the wireless network settings, still nothing. Is there any thing I can do to access wireless networks so that I can unlock the phone with Cydia?
Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

The IMEI is just a code unique to your mobile.

Any ideas?
Are you using redsn0w 0.9 ? I tested redsn0w 0.9 beta on windows 7 x64 and it worked fine with OS 3.1.2
