No real carrier but carrier name still present

Hi,
my friend has one of the first iPhones 2G, bought from AT&T and since then being used unlocked in Poland.

It always worked ok, but now we have no idea how to fix a carrier problem. The iPhone shows carrier and in the begining works ok, but after couple hours no calls are possible and no sms is being recived.

And the iPhone still shows carrier name.

At first we noticed that problem while upgrading to 2.2.1. But then, after couple days we somehow fixed it - probably because virtual operator which has country roaming in other operator started to build his native stations.

Since couple of days we have the same problem after ugrading to 3.0. We tried everything we can think about and nothing helped.

Any idea?

PS. Maybe my friends operator or sim card is broken?? His iPhone seemed to work ok when he was living abroad for a while.

also when he used the jailbreak ...leave the SIM card in the phone.

take a close look at the Sim card....make sure it is very clean with no water damage and so on.

If you have another phone to test the Sim card with...it does not have to be a iPhone ...just to see that the Sim is working.

have the same issue here... redsnow'd my 2G iPhone with no issues... have it up and running so everything else works...

I can make outbound calls but as soon as I get a incoming call, the phone does not RING but the screen shows that someone is dialling in... when I go to answer it, it answers but there is no sound... I've been told the person that calls me doesn't hear anything and I can't hear them.. I wonder if it's rednow or another app that's causing this...

also as a seperate question, when I go to restore some apps that I have previously downloaded from appstore, it restores but it doesn't appear on my springboard... this goes for Cydia installed apps aswell, e.g. I installed NES and Categories but both don't appear whereas SNES appears...

Please help...

I would try a re install of redsnOw....

Yeah Rugburn that's the way.

And also make sure you setup a new phone (no restored backups).
Sometimes these backups f** things up.

My 3g was doing the same thing - no ring, no sound and the display would stay lit. I restored several times but this did not fix anything so this last time I did not install liveclock, weather icon or sbsettings and all is fine now.
