iPhone 2G tethering with 3.0 - any news?

Has anyone looked at

System>Library>PreferenceBundles>WirelessModemSett ings.bundle

The WirelessModemSettings.plist references Tethering Switch and perhaps someone with more knowledge could make use of it. Also as far as the 3G restriction goes, when I was on 2.2.1 I had a cydia app that faked 3G and allowed me to use Slingbox, might this be ported and used for purposes of tethering?

in the plist /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist


you will find a third networkinterface at the g3 that is missing in the 2g device. something with ioethernet.
i think it is for the usb networkconnection

I show this string in the 2G, is this what you are referencing?

So if anyone knows a little C++ then they might be able to configure it a little better than me..? Hope this helps out a little

This file is identical on my iphone 2g and on my friends iphone 3g.

There are 2 false entries on the 2G, would those have to be changed to "true" instead of false?

SSH'ing into that file and altering to value to 1023 enables the toggle, gets my macbook to add another network interface, but then it says the cable is unplugged. Give this a try using "Tricker ThreeG" from Cydia, this is how I got Slingbox to work. For some reason I did not get the tether toggle when I changed the value to 1023.

Tricker ThreeG may not work because it just makes the apps think that the connection is wifi instead of 3G/EDGE. It is tricking the type of connection and not type of phone.

Hmm.... Maybe, someone could make an app that makes the iPhone 2G think thats its 3G. This would fix tethering....

I made all entries true, there is something else we are missing. All I have been able to get are APN settings for the data connection and for Visual Voicemail along with a few more options under the Phone Settings. My guess is that the issue is not in a .plist file. We already know it is possible to tether with the iPhone 2G, I was doing it on builds 2.2 and 2.2.1 using iModem and the iPhone's USB cord...
