Apple Online Mail in Service for Repair for iPhone 2g?

So I've decided I cannot fix my iPhone 2g after many nights =(.
Will apple fix it for me even though the serial number checks out to be :
unlocked once before
warranty expired

I was looking at the website and it said I can register for an apple ID and request online mail-in repair service.

What is this? How much will it be? And will they really repair my iPhone?

To update:

I called apple and even though my phone is unlocked+bricked regardless of past history they will replace it with a fee of $199.

However I have yet to confront them in person about it. I was told to make an appointment for the Genius Bar.

Also I'm unsure about the mail-in for replacement policy and not sure how long it'll take for them to ship a replacement back to me. Does anyone know?

$200 for a 1st generation iPhone replacement? That seems awful steep. You can get them for about half that on ebay and for that much you can get a 3G...

i went to the apple store and told them my story and they told me for $200 if your phone is out of warranty we can give you a new one.
I asked him what do you mean by new, isn't it refurbished?
he said all iphone 2g are from the factory directly, no 3rd party or middle man has ever touched it.
When he proceeded to show me, it didnt come in the original box instead it was in a white tiny jewelry-like box and out he gives me a pristine, sticker on phone still intact, iphone.
I examined it, no scratches, so far i am using it as wifi.

it did not come with accessories.

It was firmware 3.0 but i dont have landscape on aim, facebook app. is that normal?

Only some of the built-in apps have landscape mode. For appstore it is up to the app developer to decide if landscape mode is necessary.

Facebook runs in landscope mode for me. I don't use AIM
