Today a friend asked me if i could update his iphone 2g software and i accepted. The iphone looked normal, it had no cydia, no installer, no sign of jailbrake or unlock. He didnt told me it was unlocked nor jailbroken. The thing is i updated the iphone 2g software to 3.1.2 but when it finished the screen was black with itunes logo and iphone cable on it. After that he told me he forgot to tell me it was unlocked. Itunes said the sim wasnt recognized. I turned it into DFU mode to restore. I restored but it didnt changed.

I have experience with jailbroke iphone 3G, but now I have no idea what to do with it because its a 2G and the fact that it was unlocked was unknown.

Thats all it happened. Now I want to know how can i turn the iphone 2G back to life. (Remember the screen is black with itunes logo and iphone cable on it after I updated it via itunes because i didnt knew it was unlocked). I have the weekend for fixing his phone. I apreciate any help.

Do you know what OS it was running before? If it was really old (OS 1.0.2 for example) you might find this more tricky.

My suggestion try either iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.0.x Using RedSn0w (Windows) or if you have access to a mac iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.1.2 Using PwnageTool (Mac)

Both of these will hacktivate and then attempt to unlock with bootneuter (the 2G unlock for OS 2.x and 3.x). Generally this works, but if badly written unlocking tools were used on OS 1.x then you may need to do more work to fix this.

I just know the iphone was on 2.x. The screen is black with itunes logo and iphone cable on it so I suppose I should put the iphone in DFU mode to restore using the restore file from the first link.

I tried downloading the restore file but it was a zipped carpet. When unzipped a lot of carpets appeared not the .ipsw file. I will try to get the .ispw.

Is there a problem if the time i tried to update the iphone 2G with os 2.x (unlocked) via itunes to 3.12 and then i jailbrake and unlock to 3.01?
