For all those "distracted" that happened to unintentionally upgrade to 3.1 :
It's perfectly fine to restore your Iphone back to 3.0 with Itunes ( I used Itunes 8 ) and then redsn0w it to jailbreak and hactivate.

I have an iPhone 3g, which I bought jailbroken and was quite happily using 3.0, (Ishould also mention I'm in the UK & was using Orange no probs). Today I accidentally upgraded to 3.1 which locked me out.

So I tried jailbreaking it with redsn0w, but this wasn't working, tried over and over but nothing changed, so I gave up and tried to downgrade to 3.0 again using restore, hoping it would let me back in be jailbroken. But it didn't. It is recognised by itunes but says insert valid sim.

Now I tried redsn0w again and it kind of worked, the pineapple thing finally appeared. But then when it restarted it was in the DFU mode(?), which insisted I plugged it into itunes which wants me to restore it again, which I had to as the only way it seemed out of DFU mode. But then I was unjailbroken again. Now i'm stuck in this cycle and can't flippin use my phone and i'm SOOO frustrated!

Does anyone know of anyway this can be fixed with some magic program? I'm using windows vista by the way. Any help much appreciated.

Currently there is no way to jailbreak the 3.1 version.....

You'll need to wait till the Dev Team releases the new jailbreak.

This is not the case with the 2G (first generation) iphone (to which section my post belongs) , since the baseband is NOT updated anymore by new firmwares.

The only thing you can do right now is use it with the carrier it was originally intended for.

That's totally rubbish, I hate apple for doing this! What about these sim card things you can get which trick the phone that way? I can't get an AT&T sim being in the UK. I'm sure by the looks of it Dev team won't take too long fixing this. Thanks for the info & and apologies for hijacking a 2g help page! I was blinded by panic the other day.

You hate Apple because you were dumb enough to it yes about three times and accept an user agreement before you "accidently" upgraded your phone?

Actually, do you know what I hate more? The amount of people that assume everyone should automatically know what jailbreaking is. Some of us haven't got the time or notion to sit and spend hours googling iPhone hacks and such, I was quite happy having a wicked new phone with my tunes on it, which was unfortunatley made redundant when myself and thousands of other people happened to plug their phone into a computer that day, not aware that updating using genuine apple software on an item they've paid hundreds of pounds/dollars for, would have such a detrimental effect on the usabiility of it. You can sit and call it igonarnce if you wish, but it doesn't help anybody bitching about it, maybe it's best if you just keep your opinions to yourself and leave the posts to the kinder people here, who are willing to help those who are still learning how to deal apple & their products.
