iPhone OS 3.0 will ship this Summer!
Some of the new features wont work with the original iphone
Too bad for my wife. There are a few missing features that have been on peoples wish lists but most of the ones I've seen on the tops of lists are there!
So what do you guys think?

I am still far more impressed by the Pre than 3.0. All the features added are features people have been clamoring for since 1.0 (stereo bluetooth? copy and paste? MMS?) and many are features that have been implemented in the Pre.
Still no multitasking, still no background apps - push notification is a mere bandaid.
Im sticking with the iPhone only because Sprint is such a horrible carrier.

Well, everything seems peachy until you realize that 2nd Gen iPhone owners do not get MMS...WTF? WHY?
A different radio? I call bull!!!
Can't wait for the MMS feature to get hacked by the DevTeam or some other brilliant mind in the the community.

Marketing scheme to make you buy an iPhone 3G, or the 4th Gen that's most likely going to be announced..

You know... I though the same at first time... but I saw the so called background apps eating battery and now I am all up with Apple.
Let me tell you a story. Me and some friends went to beach some time ago, and one of our friends had an iPhone replacement named Nokia N95 -- ok, she is still pissed off because she misses her iPhone. By the early morning, using her N95, we looked after some locations on Nokia Maps, switched to contacts, did two or three calls, and put phone to sleep. Lunch time and her phone battery was drain dead. We were like "lol, bad battery?" but she put it to charge. A few hours ago, with the phone fully charged, we again used Nokia Maps, contacts and some more calls. Soon again, guess what? Phone was dead. Turned out one of our friends reminded about backgrounding apps: as we were not closing Nokia Maps, it was still running on background and battery wasn't lasting 3h. After, her phone's battery lasted about 7h, but she is still sad about her dead iPhone
So yes, I for one support this bandaid Apple is providing us. I wonder how many peeps would complain about his/her phone's battery dieing hella fast and blaming Apple for a such "faultly product".

Sounds like some good improvements. The no MMS on 2G is a bummer. Can't be a hardware problem, because I have SwirlyMMS functioning fine on my 2G.

Hmm...I find it interesting that we're already seeing unexplained feature disparity between the 2G and 3G.
Still, 3.0 looks like it's going to be a great upgrade.
It would have been really awesome if Apple had a public beta for the 3.0 software for people who were interested in getting in on it early.
