When i assign a number to contacts or create a new contact the iPhone does not save the data.

Problem stated out of nowhere on 3.0.1 then I downgraded to 3.0, offcourse i had the phone in DFU.. Nothing seems to help.. I unlocked it 2 years ago with the testpoint method. And i use redsn0w 0.8 to jailbrake.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I still havnt found any sollution to my problem... After 10 times reinstalling the problem still exhists

Is it in 3.0 or 3.0.1 now? If you are using firmware 3.0 I would suggest to upgrade it to 3.0.1. The latest firmware may be way to fix it.

Are you restoring from a backup after you reload the OS?

This could be causing the problem.. Try to sync contacts from the phone to your computer using iTunes.

Then restore phone, jailbreak with redsn0w, set up the phone as a new iPhone then sync contacts back to the phone using iTunes. After that test if the problem re-occurs.

ok, I have also had this problem a couple of times and solved it. It has been a while now, but I will try to remember exactly what I did. The problem is that you are restoring your contacts from a backup, and, I have a sense that you are doing that by manually puttin the sqlite database files in the addressbook folder in private/var/mobile/library
The problem is that there is something wrong with restoring the old FOLDER of it. (make sure you have iFile installed for this, because it is very easy to use-iPhone file manager)
Heres what to do:
1. Make sure you have a backup of your contact files (you already have that)
2. Delete the adressbook folder found in private/var/mobile/library (alongside everything in it)
3. open up your iphone app (the green one)
4. your adressbook will be empty, add 1 contact number to it (put bogus stuff in it)
5. put your backed up AddressBook.sqlitedb file inside the AdressBook folder without any other modification or alteration

puting one bogus contact in your addressbook creates the folder and normal permissions and everything.

same goes for NOTES!!!!
I have the exact same thing happen to me in Notes as well!
(although in the case of notes stuff, it's a bit more complicated due to the fact that you also have an .idx file that you have to play with.............)

Your suggestion sounds like you are actually solving a permissions problem via a roundabout path. One which is not guaranteed to work either.

The phone in question is jailbroken so they could could use SSH and then run chmod or chown to manually reset the permissions on the address book database and it's parent folder without all that deleting / recreating process. This is what I have done when I have manually restored my SMS and call history databases.

However as the address book contacts are synced to your computer via iTunes, the solution I outlined in an earlier post would fix these types of permissions problems without using SSH or jailbreak and would also eliminate many other performance & battery life problems caused by restoring a backup from a jailbroken iPhone.

my solution is easier than knowing a lot of terminal commands and all of that.
ppl nowadays want the easiest and most streamlined solution to everything......
of course I could have provided chmods, but.................

Thank you so much.. I bought a BB Bold because i was fed up with the problem.. Then i got fed up with the stupid Bold and now i can use my old iPhone yet again!!!

I fixed it with the premission method.. Stupid i did not think of that..
