Hello,
I have just recently installed iPhone SDK 3.0 beta 2, I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.5, and iTunes 8.1.1.
When I tried to connect my iPhone 3G with 2.2 firmware, it's just "not detected", but my USB port is working normally with other device, and it could charge the iPhone too.
So I guess, something is wrong when I install the SDK.
This is what I read from the Console messages:
Apr 9 13:16:42 jesses-macbook [0x0-0x19019].com.apple.iTunes[249]: MobileDevice: AMDeviceNotificationSubscribe: USBMuxListenerCreate: Operation timed out
The above message applies to all of software that has communication features with iPhone.

Funny, i had a similar thing going on. I had deleted iTunes and re-installed it then found that behavior. I dont know if it is related to iTunes 8.1.1 but this is what helped me: I re-installed SDK 3 beta 2 and everything was working again. Give it a try.

and i was about to post this up in case anyone got similar issue then saw your suggestion.

i suspect SDK planted some sh*t in iphone system and whenever things mess up, SDK reinstallation is needed....
Maybe, but just keep in mind that the SDK aswell is a beta version and should not run on a production unit ;-)
