iphone with broken home button will not boot after full reset
my iphone was freezing up so i decided to reset all setting and start a fresh.
once this completed the iphone will now not boot and stays on the apple screen.
the home button doesnt work so i cant boot into DFU mode
ive had no luck with this for weeks of posting on forums! can any one help?
is there some sort of command prompt or terminal that i have heard people on forums talikng about for the iphone?
some one told me it was sft bricked and can be fixed?? is this true??
iphone 3g 8gb 3.1.2
windows with itunes
jailbroken with blackrain (think that was fucked up in the first place!)
any questions answered will be appreciated!!!!!
you are experiencing what is called a SWOD (Spinning Wheel Of Death). All is not lost! What you’ll need to do is get it in DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode and restore.
This is the easiest way to boot into DFU mode:
* Plug iPhone into PC (or Mac)
* Press-and-hold the sleep button and home button until the device force-powers off. (about 10 seconds)
* Release the sleep button, but still hold the home button. Do this until you hear the device connected sound on the computer.
* You may now release the home button, to test that it works, go into iTunes, it should say that an iPhone is connected, and has to be restored.
But as he mentioned earlier hist home button is broken and so he cant enter DFU, is there any other way to enter DFU?
(interested because i've got the same problem with the reboot loop and a broken home button)
hey iknow this is an old thread but i was wondering did u ever find a solution to this?
The only reliable way to get a 2G or 3G into DFU mode with a broken home (or power button) is to deliberately corrupt LLB by flashing another NOR file over it (usually recommend apple logo)

Once you enter DFU mode in this way, the only way out is to restore via iTunes - you can only use redsn0w to enter pwned DFU mode (and then restore via iTunes), none of the other options in redsn0w will work properly.
Unfortunately, this technique only works while your iPhone is still running the normal OS (even if you are stuck at the "slide to unlock" screen). The original poster in this thread had foolishly "erased all content and settings" which also erases most of the OS, leaving only the NOR intact.
I honestly can't think of anything that will work for this specific problem. You can try RecBoot and the "enter recovery mode" of TinyUmbrella. Problem is I suspect neither will recognise the phone when it is not booted fully.
So.. you are left with the most obvious solution, get the home button fixed.
