iPhone 3g, 2.2.1, baseband 2.28: how to upgrade safely to 3.0
I have an iphone 3g, version 2.2.1, and baseband 2.28. It's jailbroken and unlocked with yellowsn0w.
Now I'm not sure what to do. I read on the dev-team's website that it's now safe to upgrade to 3.0, but isn't 3.1 already out? How do I upgrade to 3.0? And if I restore using itunes (8.2), wouldn't that upgrade my baseband as well?
Thanks a lot, people.
Firmware 3.1 is not out.
Even if it is, stay away from it.
Firmware 3.0 is safe to use.
It will update your baseband to 04.26.08.
Use redsnow 0.8 to jb/hacktivate.
run cydia and install ultrasn0w 0.8 for unlock.

Restore your phone in iTunes (3.1 isn't out yet so it will restore 3.0) Then run RedSn0w 0.80 then run UltraSn0w 0.80 then synch your apps/contact/music etc from iTunes.
Do not try and restore a backup made on FW 2.xx
