I have a 3g 8gb iphone with ver 2.0.2 with BB 02.08.01, so i wanted to software unlock this phone as was running on turbosim solutin! so i downloaded a custom firmware 3.1.2 and restored it with itunes 9.02 and after succesfully restoring to 3.1.2 i am find it strange (the phone too is acting a bit strange) to see the version is 3.1.2 (7D11) but the baseband is still 02.08.01!!!!!
i think i should have first updated to original firmware 3.0 so that it does update the baseband and then update to custom firmware 3.1.2 right? this was the right way to do it! so pls let me know how do i go about this now? ASAP as customer is expected asnytyime

Yes restore to stock 3.0 and then restore using the same custom 3.1.2 you have now. This will get you sorted out.

The fastest approach is to activate/jailbreak on 3.0 with redsn0w and then shift-restore the custom 3.1.2 ipsw.

I did as u told me! and now iam on 3.1.2 with BB 04.26.08, blackra1ined but no signal! itried airoplane on off etc and waitied 20mins then inseretd the card but still no sign of the sign of it!
and yes after restoring it, i rain the blackr1in jailbreak thinking that this will install blackra1in to the iphone but it did not install so then thru cydia i installed blackrain and ran it! was that which is creating the problem?

You need ultrasn0w to unlock baseband 04.26.08, install that from Cydia.

If you followed my instructions, you don't need blackra1n. Try restoring the custom 3.1.2 again and then installing ultrasn0w from Cydia. Check your baseband version to be sure you have not upgraded to a newer version than 04.26.08 with all your efforts.

I am sure you already know this but your TurboSim will not work with baseband 04.26.08 or higher, you need to remove that and just use your SIM standalone.
