Upgrade or not? Any ideas.
So I have read this forum through and will not ask for a link to 3.0 Beta 2.
Here is my story.
I was on 2.2.1 Jailbroken, Unlocked, and Activated with a 2G iPhone. I then use alt-click to upgrade to 3.0 Beta 1. The phone stayed Activated and Unlocked, functioning in all respects. I didn't have a developer account for the 2G iPhone.
Now I hear about 3.0 Beta 2. I've downloaded the new .ispw and am seriously trying to figure out if I should upgrade. As far as we know, Apple will never update the 2G baseband again (one of the reasons I have a 2G). This should mean then that upgrading to 3.0 Beta 2 by alt-click should keep me activated?
Remember I have a:
2G iPhone
Unlocked
Activated
3.0 Beta 1
Functioning perfectly
No developer account (phone isn't registered with Apple)
Not on AT&T
Any help would be appreciated. I've been an iPhone enthusiast ever since it came out and have two themes in Cydia.

Please do not say such things.... beta sw is just what it is: buggy beta sw.

No problems with a 2G iPhone. UPDATED succesfully from 3.0a, that was originaly UPDATED from a QuickPwned 2.0.2.
No problems, not purple screen. 100% smooth on the first attempt.
Ah, did I forget to mention that this was done under Windows Vista?
So: RESTORE 2.0.2, QuickPwn, UPDATE 3.0a, UPDATE 3.0b seems to work.
Anyone can confirm the "path".

No SDK at all, and using a "different" sim, because the 2g model never was sold in the netherlands.
Original: iPhone US 1.0.2 OTB BL3.9 | firmware: 3.0

A side note on the new beta: It boots really fast! Never seen such a fast boot before, not even 1.0
(btw, this was my post #1000!)

Does the purple screen error only occur with iPhones 1st gen or also with 3G devices, if the SDK is not installed?

Oh yes, using a non-AT&T SIM inside the iPhone all the time too!

Worked for me to UPDATE to 3.0a then 3.0b, but I have not tried to got directly to 3.0b, as the iPhone was already with 3.0a.
