Anyway, here's the trick: BTServer keeps a table for each iDevice. That table contains 32bit elements which are bitmasks for each device type:
0x00000003 // iPhone1,1
0x00000000 // iPod1,1
0x0000099B // iPhone1,2
0x000008D8 // iPod2,1
0x000009DB // iPhone2,1
...
BTServer will pick the right bitmask, depending on USB device-id. That bitmask is used to cull out functionality. Less bits in bitmask means fewer capabilities are exposed by BTServer. The meaning of the bits in the mask are explained in my tethering hack.
For example, if you want to disable handsfree, make sure your iDevice bitmask has bit 0 cleared: 0x000009DA (iPhone2,1), but I really don't know why you would want to do that.
Hope that helps.

1M BPS using USB connection for both WIFI and EDGE

Thanks for making this iphone 2G WIFI sharing available, It will be very useful because with this, PC is able to use AT&T WIFI hotspots to access internet free of charge. I installed it. It works. However, PC says that it has 1M BPS using USB connection, which is the same 1M BPS connection using USB connection to AT&T EDGE network. I guess that Iphone limited it to 1M BPS connecting USB to PC, regardless whether it is sharing WIFI or sharing EDGE. Is it possible to let that USB connection to 11M BPS which is the speed for Iphone to connect to WIFI AP?

Aloha. Many thanks to you and dborca for all your hard work implementing and distributing this hack. I just got around to installing it from the Cydia repository, and it worked great. I can now tether to both my Windows XP SP3 and Ubuntu Lucid Lynx machines. Thank you again.
I did, however, encounter some issues with the Windows XP drivers. Upon activating tethering, the Windows New Hardware dialog opened, and eventually asked for location of drivers (I should mention this was tried with both iTunes 9 and 10). After researching this and other forums, I directed the dialog to both the Net Drivers folder in Mobile Device Support and SYSTEM32\DRIVERSTORE folders. Neither time did the New Hardware dialog recognize the netaapl driver. On another computer that doesn't have iTunes, I installed the AppleApplicationSupport and AppleMobileDeviceSupport packages from an older iTunes (circa 8). The driver installed first try (version 1.6 I believe). I then updated those 2 packages to the iTunes 10 versions and immediately encountered the same New Hardware dialog issues. So, I reverted back to the older packages and all is good. Now, back to the computer with iTunes 10, I uninstalled the ApplicationSupport and MobileDeviceSupport packages, and installed the old versions. Tethering then worked, but iTunes wouldn't function. Reinstalling iTunes resulted in the same New Hardware issues, although Windows Device Manager at least remembered the name of the network device was Apple Mobile Device Driver. It just couldn't find the new version. Looking in the registry, it still refers to the old version. So, I backed-out only AppleApplicationSupport and reinstalled the old version of that. Tethering is working again. iTunes complains about the old version, but still seems to function (the little I've used after trying all this).
So, has anybody determined what the newer versions of AppleApplicationSupport and AppleMobileDeviceSupport packages have changed to "confuse" the Windows New Hardware dialog?
Thanks again. Take it easy.

Well, after a bit more trial-and-error today, I think I have it. I reinstalled the iTunes 10 versions of AppleApplicationSupport and AppleMobileDeviceSupport. Then, I added the following line from the [Aapl.NTx86] section of netaapl.inf version 1.6 to the iTunes 10 version of the same file, as well as the oem35.inf file in C:\WINDOWS\INF:
%Netaapl.DeviceDesc% = Netaapl.ndi, USB\Vid_05ac&Pid_1290&Mi_02
I noticed this line was present in the older version of netaapl.inf, but not in the newer version. I also manually installed the certificate from netaapl.cat. Now, when I connect the iPhone 2G and enable tethering, the driver installs fine. No errors from New Hardware dialog. Looking at the driver details in Device Manager it does refer to the above line.
Hope this all helps somebody else. Take it easy.
