iPhone 2G Push Notification over Wifi
Hi, I have an iPhone 2G that is unlocked and jailbroken with Pwnagetool and software 3.1.2. I'm using AT&T without a dataplan, using only cellular reception to make calls and text. I've disabled my apn by putting in a fake one so that I will not be able to connect to EDGE (so my data plan doesn't get raped by charges) and use only wifi when available. Everything is working great, but my problem arises when trying to set up push notifications to be used properly while only using wifi. I'm wanting push notifications to kick in to as soon as my iPhone grabs a wifi network, so they will work as intended. If anyone knows any solutions in setting this up, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Try this first:
Disable Edge and 3G data on iPhone
You can tell if your carrier is still giving you an IP by dialing this string on the phone *3001#12345#* and pressing Call. Next, tap PDP Context List and then 0. If you do not have the '0' listed, or the IP Address shown on the '0' page is 0.0.0.0 then you are okay.
Otherwise install Edge Disabler from the cydia source: Cydia.pushfix.info
The above information was paraphrased from the description provided for Edge Disabler. I have not actually tested this myself.

Thanks for your reply.
I did type in the number you provided to check the PDP and checked my Cellular Network Data to be both 0 bytes for Sent/Received.
As noted in my first post, my EDGE network is successfully blocked and I am using wifi and my cell network perfectly fine.
My problem lies in having Push Notifications (updating mail/facebook/other apps with badges and alerts) while only on Wifi. I know wifi kicks off when the phone is put to sleep, and I am wanting my iPhone to receive direct push notifications as soon as it signs on to a network (in place of EDGE).
I hope this clarifies,
Thanks again

Not had time to test this further myself yet. Just want to clarify that you are mixing two different types of push. Mail does not use the push notification system. Push mail is a separate thing to App Store push notifications, they work differently and you cannot expect if one works that the other will automatically work also.

Well my mail updates without having to load up Mail. Once I'm connected to wifi if pops up a badge and vibrates. I'm wanting the same thing for my apps, such as facebook, words with friends etc. since they do not update themselves when I am connected to wifi. Do you know of a solution that might remedy this?
Thanks again for your time and replies

As I keep on saying.. Push mail is a different technology to Push Notifications. They are completely separate and push mail can be on with push notifications off and vice versa. You cannot expect them to behave the same way.
Your only option (if you don't have the screen active) is 15 minute updates with push notifications.
