I've been using 3.0 beta2 fw lately with out a problem, but today it expired, and I had to upgrade to 3.0beta5, which I did. It all went well, my iPhone is now upgraded and unlocked but... I can not activate it in the latest iTunes 8.2pre-release

And that basically means that I can only make emergency calls
What can I do in order to get my phone activated again? (preferably with 3.0 fw)
Hi there - am a developer as well - and I think I can help you out.
one question though:
You mentioned that the phone is upgraded and unlocked?
- you mean upgraded to beta 5? but if its not activated- how can it be unlocked? I mean if you are not able to get to the homescren, how have you unlocked it?

Well... I see that USB wire and iTunes icon all the time (and pink background), but I can make emergency calls and receive ANY call (as well as ANY msg).
When I connect my phone to a Mac, iTunes says that my SIM card is not valid and I should insert a card from an other carrier (the one actually that came with phone).

there is no jailbreak for 3.0 beta 5 yet but you can downgrade to beta 4 and jailbreak and activate it using quickpwn (unofficial) 3.0 beta 4 this won't be an issue since your using iPhone 2G. Then you can patch out expiration by going to /System/Library/CoreServices and Modifying SystemVersion.plist by Removing the Key 'ReleaseType'
Note: you can upgrade to beta 5 when jailbreak for it comes out... Hope this helped...

@ inshadesofgrey: it is an iPhone 2G so he unlocked it on a previous firmware version and there is no baseband update for the iPhone 2G on 3.0 thus when he updates the firmware the baseband remains unlocked but his lockdown has not been patched to be activated... hope this clears things up...

@bejo
I also have the same problem with my 1ST GEN iPhone. I will try to downgrade to 2.2.1 today and try to Quickpwn and then upgrade to beta 5 again and see what happens. If this doesn't work I will try to jailbreak beta 5 with the new quickpwn5full and then bootneuter from Cydia...
. I will know by tomorrow morning...
