HELP!! My 2g iphone shows no service with Three mobile provider
Please help,
I bought an iphone from America ages ago and jailbroke it etc, and it's worked fine with 2 other carriers I've been with Optus and Vodaphone.
I've just changed over to THREE.
But it wont work, it states No Service and when i go into settings everytime i press "carrier" it keeps giving me an ERROR warning.
Is there a patch around for this carrier??
The new sim card is a pre paid could that be why??
HELP

Three operates a 3G UTMS2100 only service, where there is no Three network coverage the phone will roam onto Telstra's network (Telstra have UTMS2100, UTMS850 and GSM900 GSM1800 networks)
I am assuming you have a 1st generation iPhone (metal back with a plastic strip at the bottom). This phone only supports GSM900 GSM1800.
So in essence despite your sim card saying Three, you are actually always on the Telstra GSM network. This should in theory work, however maybe Three automatically bars phones that can't do UMTS2100 (Three makes little to no profit on the traffic that roams to Telstra).
If you have a 3G or 3GS phone, ignore everything above, as long as it is unlocked, it should just work.

Yes it's a 2g, i think it was one of 1st not 100%.
The model number starts with MA
It's firmware/version is 1.1.4
I called Three but they just said to upgrade on itunes, which is out of the question because it's jailbroken.
If i found an upgraded for a newer firmware than 1.1.4 would that work?
Or is this a lost cause?

Thanks...

The question you were supposed to ask Three was if they allowed GSM phones that did not suport 3G on their network. You should not have mentioned that it was an iPhone at all.
Onto the issue of upgrading iTunes. This will NOT fix the problems with Three.
However I do recommend you upgrade iTunes and the OS. Whoever told you that you could never upgrade your iPhone was not telling you the truth.
As of OS 1.1.4, an option for a permanent unlock was available for the 2G iPhone. The only thing you need to be aware of is that the version of iPhone OS you plan to run has been jailbroken.
I strongly recommend you use either iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.0.x Using RedSn0w (Windows) This guide is written for OS 3.0 or 3.0.1 however the exact same guide works for OS 3.1.2 with the new release of redsn0w 0.9 redsn0w 0.9beta3 [iPhone Dev Team]
On a mac you can use iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.1.2 Using PwnageTool (Mac)
You should sync your iPhone to your computer first. Backup the data that is important.
Your 2G iPhone will be a lot more functional with O 3.1.2. It will not fix the Three problem (I think that is something to do with either the SIM, or some setting on Three's side)
When dealing with three, don't ever tell them you have an iPhone, instead tell them it is an older Nokia model that does not support 3G at all. If you tell them you have an iPhone, they will think it is a 3G or 3GS iPhone and give you incorrect advice.
