searched google and these forums but couldnt find the answer.

Maybe Im being a little slow but what exactly is hactivation ? I know what it does (activated your phone without going through itunes) but what exactly are the benfits ? I dont know if I should buy an iphone from the shop (where they activate it before handing it over to you) or by iphone online (where we activate it ourselves, so can hactivate it instead)

so, what are the benefits ?

My understanding of it is...

If you want to use an unsupported sim to make calls, then you need to activate (hactivate) so you can unlock the baseband for your sim card.

But my understanding was that you activate (itunes), jailbreak (redsn0w), unlock (ultrasn0w) and then you can use any sim any way ? So hacktivating doesnt do anything else apart from not letting you use youtube and push messages
