Disable EDGE
Hello,
What is the best and most reliable app to disable EDGE on an iPhone 2G running 3.1.2? I do not have an unlimited data plan.
I have heard of BossPrefs and SBSettings.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

It is actually not possible to disable edge on an iPhone. What you need to do is to prevent your iPhone recieving an IP for mobile data/edge. How you achieve this can vary from mobile carrier to mobile carrier. Some will allocate you an IP even if you have no data plan and redirect you to some kind of data plan signup page.
The most common approach is to use a custom ipcc or similar to enter an invalid or empty data apn. One such site that can do this is http://iphonenodata.com/site/
You can test this if your carrier is still giving you an IP by dialing this string on the phone *3001#12345#* and pressing Call. Next, tap PDP Context List and then 0. If you do not have the '0' listed, or the IP Address shown on the '0' page is 0.0.0.0
If this does not work, then there are programs that can fix this but they often break MMS as well. One such program is EDGE Disabler from http://cydia.pushfix.info

The only way I found to disable the EDGE was to call AT&T(USA) and have them do it from their end. They did it and random data charges stopped. This was a year ago tho. They don't do it anymore for smartphones.
