I feel a little better that I am not the only one in this situation...^^

maybe you already know but Monday hopefully will come out the windows version for pwntools ( i don't remember the name ), and maybe we can be able to jailbroke the iphone, but we have to found a way to put it in DFU mode...

Are you sure that rerdsn0w works with 3.1 firmware?
I think redsn0w 0.8 is supposed to, I'm not completely sure. Anyways its the only hope

just to sum up what could be done:

1)put iPhone in recovery mode with the help of iLiberty+
2)restore with a custom already jailbroken firmware

Now i've tried this and I could only restore with the normal firmware, the custom one i've tried gave me a 1604 error. Now if i could make a custom firmware for my other iPhone and use it on this one, hmmm, maybe that will work; damn quickpwn better get released faster

Read this thread, it will tell you how to make a modified firmware which will put you into dfu mode. Once in dfu mode read try this to restore to 3.0 instead of using the pwnage tool way described in the thread:
post #40 from there: Think I may have an idea how to do this without pwnage tool. Use the modified ipsw as described in the earlier posts in this thread to put the phone into dfu. Then use a program called iReb 3.1 instead of pwnage tool. It allows a way to get past the 1600 errors for custom firmwares. A simple google should bring up the link to iReb 3.1. I don't have the phone with the broken button anymore so can't test it out though.

Oh and you should probably take down that link to custom firmwares, it is against forum rules
