Good information, I was unaware that the 04.22.01 baseband in the 3.0B2 fixed the data connection drop on 2.2.1 firmware.

Not sure what you mean... Everyone has provided valid solutions to both iterations of this problem:
If you want to run 2.2.1 and don't care about a 3g unlock:
Upgrade to at least 3.0B2 to ensure you're running the 04.22+ baseband. DFU Restore to 2.2.1 and use QuickPWN to break out of the restore/reboot cycle. I can verify that the 04.22 baseband does not drop data connections on 2.2.1.
If you want to run 3.0 and don't care about a 3g unlock:
This problem doesn't exist on the 3.0 firmwares... If you want to take your life into your hands and upgrade your daily-use phone to 3.0, no one here can stop you. But it's a bad idea.
If you care about a 3g unlock:
TOO LATE. When you upgraded to 3.0 you sent your baseband into 04.20-ville. That and anything past it are not yellowsn0w-able at present.
Either way, one of those will stop your data connection issues, unless I'm missing something?
