About LinkBacksI happened to download OS 3.0 through iTunes 8.2 and then downgraded iTunes to 8.1.1. Now 8.1.1 offers to install the new OS. Is that possible? Would there be any advantages to allowing that to happen, and any disadvantages?

Stick to the latest version of iTunes. There's a reason it was updated, and you'll probably need it for future updates.

you cannot sync os 3.0 phones with 8.1xxx itunes it gives you an error message
