3G service setup on iPhone, India

i have unlocked iPhone 3.0.1 (by blacksn0w) currently running MTNL carrier service India (http://mtnldelhi.in/)...(this site can be tough to follow for right information though they have all stacked it up, due to some RIGHT TO INFORMATION shit in our country...trick is to search what you are looking for in google with keywords of mtnl delhi)...

i have entered the following settings - (correct and verified by customer care)
APN - pps3g
Username - mtnl
Password - mtnl123

surprisingly i can access to Edge services with these settings but when i enable 3G option the internet access stops...though the iPhone shows 3G icon in top left display bar...

the error message displayed while using 3G - "Could not activate cellular data service"

tried entering proxy server and port using iPhone Configuration Utility...but only to get - "there was a problem communicating with the proxy server" even with Edge

even installed a custom ipcc for MTNL (guided by Carrier Bundle Generator iPhone OS 3.0 - 3.1.2 (ipcc))

The UMTS frequency of MTNL is 1900 & 2100 MHz (Dolphin)
and these frequencies are supported by iphone...(Apple - iPhone - Technical Specifications)

kindly help me...if anymore details are required i will respond accordingly...

there is a large pool of iphone users in india...but there is lack of specific information about carrier settings for iphone (in india) on the web...

i know it will be difficult to actually get to the problem...cause many of you cannot have access to indian carrier services for testing/checking...

any help/hypotheses is welcome...

with some tweaking I managed to browse on unlocked iphone 3g on mtnl 3g networks.Original unlocking was done using Cydia and Ultrasn0w.But 3g browsing did not work with following settings:
APN-pps3g
USERNAME-mtnl
PASSWORD-mtnl123

After a few days I installed blacksn0w also.Then removed Ultrasn0w and blacksn0w.Again installed Ultrasnow and re booted and installed blacksn0w.I enabled 3g in settings and was able to browse on iphone.MTNL 3G settings for delhi remain the same as mentioned above.It works in some areas where 3g signals are present.MTNL 3g coverage in Gurgaon is not very consistent at present.The download speed(sppedtest.net) I got was between 128kbps to 285 kbps,and upload speed 261 kbps to 316 kbps

Chalo at least iPhone is working with mtnl 3g...
Some of my friends got it working too...they are in north Delhi...and someone else has also complained of 3g network problems in south delhi...
But I did not get the rationale of your procedure and it didn't help me either...
Did you buy a data card for free Internet usage...?
And which part of Delhi do you mostly use iPhone...?

Cause I talked to 3g officer at sanchaar haat hauz khas and he told me that for being able to use mtnl hsdpa Internet you have to buy a data card...else your Internet will connect through edge service and not hsdpa...
