i still wonder if they will be updating the 3G basband after 3.0 since they have thier 3GS.

By the sounds of it, dev team will release the jailbreak and unlock(Yelowsn0w) soon after the final release of 3.0 Firmware, then you will have to upgrade to latest BB and FW in order to unlock.

I feel so retarded because I've had the phone for 3 months but haven't jailbroke it because I thought you couldn't... i clearly thought jailbreaking and unlocking were the same. I googled it and realized its not. But any i was wondering maybe this is a bit too much to ask but will the software be available @midnight and will the jailbreak be ready too? Or will there be a wait on the jailbreak?

jailbreak and unlock should come at the same time, jailbreaking is a more trivial process than unlocking so it usually comes first if not at the same time.
