Has anyone tried this?? Testers?
From aviegas
-Install 2.0.2 and use QuickPwn RC2 (needs to be RC - google for it)
2-When running QuickPwn, no need to replace logos or install Cydia or Installer. Assuming it was already unlocked for 2.x, no need to unlock again (all 2.x and 3.0 have the same baseband on 1st gen iPhones)
3-Install 3.0 beta. Your 3.0 will end up unlocked and activated!

I have tried the method of first downgrading iPhone 2G to 2.0.2 from unlocked 2.2.1 and then quickpwn using RC2 it to activate/unlock the 2.0.2. Then upgraded to 3.0 beta and it keeps the activation and unlock. The baseband has not changed for 2G so I guess downgrading should work as well though I havent tried it.

i downgraded my 2G from 3.0 the usual way to 2.2.1.
i dfu restored to 2.2.1 with the latest iTunes (8.1.0.52), than i had to use the newest quickpwn (windows vista) to unlock.
before that i used the way described by aviegas to upgrade to 3.0 with the only exception, that i used quickpwn RC3(!) to unlock the 2.0.2

Downgrading works fine in DFU mode on Windows.
Did it several times now from 3.0 to 2.2.1 with the latest itunes version. Unlock stays as expected.
