Default Using EDGE while Wifi is up

Is there any way, either through the official API or through the private frameworks, to use the cellular data network (EDGE or 3G) while Wifi is also up? I see that the cellular interface is available and has an IP address, and I am able to bind a socket to it, but at least in my simple tests, it wasn't possible to send data over EDGE once Wifi was enabled. I assume this is the OS turning off data networking because Wifi is up. Is there any way to prevent that?

The reason I want this is to be able to send a stream over EDGE with no interruptions as I move across Wifi hotspots.

    Go into

Settings-> Wi-Fi-> The move the slider for Wi-Fi to off.

    Is that what you mean?

No, I want to programatically keep EDGE connections from being shut off if I turn Wifi on. I want Wifi for some apps and EDGE for others.

I guess is possible. While writing I am using my Iphone EDGE internet connection tethered to the PC with PDAnet. I have an active adhoc wifi connection to the PC and at the same time I am connected to the internet with Edge.

SwirlyMMS does this, while the Wifi is up, I am still able to fetch and send MMS`s witch offcourse can only be done via Edge.

So it has to be possible.
