[Advice] Got my developer acceptance/activation code: what hardware should I use?
Hi -
I just got my developer acceptance, paid my $99, and got my activation code. I now have a "Program portal" button in my page at developer.apple.com/iphone.
I currently have ONE iPhone, running unlocked 1.1.4 (T-Mobile). It has never been activated AT&T. I'd rather not load beta software onto this phone anyway (since I use it as my day-to-day phone), so I'll probably purchase either a new iPhone(2G) or iPod Touch just for development.
My understanding is that you must have an AT&T activated iPhone in order to use a phone as a 'developer' phone. Is that still true, or has the community figured out how to bypass that requirement?
If I can't use an iPhone (I'm not going to sign-up for AT&T just for development), I assume I can use an iPod Touch as a developer device? Obviously, the EDGE-related stuff wouldn't work, but if I'm writing a generic app for iPhone/iPod Touch, that shouldn't be a problem.
BTW (others may be interested in this): I had originally signed up for the SDK/developer program the day they announced it. I never received my 'acceptance' (like most other developers). The other day, I RE-applied (using a different .mac ID, different email, different mailing address, etc), and a few days later I was accepted (under that account - my old account still hasn't been accepted).
Thanks for any advice you can give me on iPhone vs iPod Touch.
